Crash Investigation

An unusual accident ties-up the morning commute on a major mountain interstate.

Traffic was at a standstill for miles on I-26 in Asheville after a man was hit by a truck.

Authorities say the victim was parked along the shoulder on the westbound side of the interstate, just after 6am.

Troopers say the unidentified man jumped into the path of the oncoming tractor-trailer.

When they arrived at the scene they found his hood up and his dog inside the car.

The wreck tied-up traffic from just west of the Parkway bridge all the way back to the Airport Road exit.

Many drivers passed the scene just after the man was hit and started calling 911-dispatch.

Animal control came to recover the dog and took her to the shelter, where we're told a family member of the victim is expected to come and pick it up.

At this point, highway patrol has not released the name, age or place the victim lived.
