McDowell Co. Animal Ordinance Proposals
A proposal's been submitted to commissioners that would add more regulations to the animal cruelty ordinance. It would require shelters to be in shade, be dry and clean, and large enough for the animal to turn around in. Tethers would have to be at least 10 feet long. There would also be a charge for lost animals to be claimed if they're not spayed or neutered. The county manager said commissioners are reluctant to add new regulations and there are also concerns some would be difficult to enforce. There is no timeline on when the board will vote on the amendments.
