Fatal Moped Accident

At approximately 12:30 PM Friday, the Asheville Police Department responded to Broadway at W. T. Weaver Blvd. for a collision involving a moped operated by David Landon Ledford, 34, of Asheville.

Mr. Ledford was traveling north on Broadway when he ran the red traffic signal for his direction of travel. Simultaneously a 2006 Honda Odyssey, operated by 33 year old Mariana Nicolai Lisnic, of Asheville, traveled from W.T. Weaver Blvd to north on Broadway on a green light.  Ledford’s moped struck the center to right front section of the Odyssey.

Ledford was ejected from the moped and later succumbed to his injuries at Mission Hospital.  No occupants in the Honda Odyssey received injury.

The details of the collision were discussed with the Buncombe County District Attorney's Office.  Based on evidence and information gathered on the scene, including witness statements, no charges are pending.
