Reaction To "The Decline of NC"
The New York Times is making a national spectacle out of North Carolina politics. A scathing editorial called "The Decline of North Carolina" takes aim at the Republican-led General Assembly. It called recent political decisions "grotesque damage."
The editorial says recent legislation like the abortion bill, cuts to school funding, and an alarmingly high unemployment rate is cause for alarm. Local republicans and democrats say the editorial is embarassing and not the way they want North Carolina to be perceived.
In response, Governor McCrory's office has issued the following statement:
"The New York Times editorial is riddled with errors, and maybe if they came to North Carolina they would understand that governor. McCroy remains 100% focused on the economy, education, and government efficience as he has been for the first six months in office."
