UPDATE: Waterfall Search
Officials have released the name of the man who disappeared after jumping from a waterfall in Transylvania County yesterday.
Rescue workers resumed their search efforts this morning for Jermaine Maffett, 36, of Greenville.
It's some of the most rugged country in the Carolinas, and flooding has pumped up the level of the whitewater.
Add to that the two waterfalls rescue workers are working around this morning.
Witnesses say Maffett jumped off Turtleback Falls yesterday afternoon.
They say he came to the surface twice in distress and then wasn't seen again.
Rescue crews from nine departments have set up the command post today.
They're working from a campground downstream from Turtleback Falls.
Asst. Chief Brian Gill, Lake Toxaway Fire & Rescue, "at this point with the way the water is flowing we have chosen Adam's Cove, it is easy to get to at this point, and starting our bottom search at that point, and working back to the last point seen, we also have a crew at the last point seen, where he went in the water."
The problem is between those two points is Rainbow Falls which has a 100-foot drop.
In the rugged river valley, rescue workers can't just walk up the river banks because they are blocked by steep cliffs.
They're bringing in a helicopter to search from the air and they say they'll stay here until they find Maffett or his body.
Officials have blocked access to Turtleback Falls and Adam's Cove campground.
