Buncombe County Budget
Commissioners in Buncombe County approve a new budget that includes a property tax increase.
The new tax rate will be 2.8-cents higher per $100 of property value.
Part of the increase will pay for a new agency, the "cultural and recreation authority."
Most of the talk was about a $10-million indoor shooting range that was removed from the budget.
Sheriff van Duncan says they have had offers of outdoor locations from residents.
He still hopes to put the range at the old landfill property in Woodfin.
Sheriff van Duncan, Buncombe County, "we're probably going to go back and talk with Woodfin about 'what are the possibilities,' because it would really be good to have all that training for public safety all in one central location."
The sheriff will return with a new proposal for a range, which he says should cost about $750,000.
