Felony Child Abuse Arrest

Investigators with the Henderson County Sheriff's Office have charged Michael Laviell Thompson, age 24, currently of Hendersonville with one count of Felony Child Abuse, Intentionally Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury.

Thompson surrendered to authorities at the Henderson County Detention Facility at approximately 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The investigation began on August 23rd when an officer with the Sheriff's office was conducting a traffic stop and a vehicle approached his location and stopped in the roadway. The officer could hear a female screaming inside the vehicle about an infant being hurt and needing an ambulance. The infants mother stated she had gone to pick up some food and received a call from Thompson indicating the infant had fallen and hit her head. The officer immediately had EMS respond to his location as it was apparent the injuries were severe.

The 10-month-old infant was transported without delay to Mission Hospital and remains in critical but stable condition.

Thompson, the infant's father, remains in the Henderson County Detention Facility under $80,000 secured bond.
