Bed Bugs Plague Public Housing

People who live in the Garden Apartments on South French Broad Avenue in Asheville say they have bed bugs.

This is the second time in a week News 13 has received a call about the problem in Asheville public housing. The Housing Authority says every time they get a complaint about bed bugs, they treat the problem. However, they keep coming back.

Walter Barber says the bed bug problem started about two months ago. Barber says he's lived in the Garden Apartments on South French Broad Avenue for eight years and this is the first time he's had a problem. Barber lives on a fixed income and says he had to spend a lot of money trying to treat the problem. He says it has gotten so bad, his family is afraid to come visit.

Last week, News 13 told you about a bed bug problem at the Altamont Apartments on North Market Street. Six months ago, residents at the Aston Park Towers were complaining about bed bugs.

The Housing Authority says they've treated all the buildings people have complained about. They say they have an exterminator coming to the Garden Apartments Friday.
