United Way: Day of Caring
Hundreds of volunteers tackle projects all across Buncombe County to show they care.
More than 56 local businesses and groups were represented during the annual United Way "Day of Caring."
Volunteers headed to local schools and non-profits to provide work the organizations would otherwise have to pay for.
This group at care partners adult day services bagged-up leaves, washed windows and even cleaned the filters in the fish pond.
They say the motivation is simple, local businesses have a responsibility to give back.
Greg Mosher, Office Environments of Asheville, "it's one of those things that I think makes Asheville a great place to live, is that the local businesses, by giving back to the not for profit community, actually make Asheville, they take care of their own, and make Asheville a great place to live."
During last year's "Day of Caring" volunteers donated more than 3200 hours of service, saving local organizations an estimated $71,000.
