Impact Of Possible Government Shutdown
The Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park could see a huge impact if there's a federal government shutdown.
The Department of Interior has plans in place to close some facilities if it happens. That does not include ones that are essential to protect lives and property. Day visitors and campers could be instructed to leave, but given ample notice.
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park says the majority of 320 employees could be furloughed. A park spokesperson says 40 employees, mainly law enforcement officers, would remain.
Visitors like Lucy Fitzgerald from Louisiana say politicians shouldn't play with money.
"I think they need to grow up. I think we need to learn how to cooperate and use common sense," said Fitzgerald.
