Dog Kennel Floods
A mountain dog kennel has been flooded so many times, its septic system is now ruined.
Loving Care Kennels says they began flooding in May, after contractors installed a pipeline to route water to the Rutherford County Airport.
Kennel owner Christine De Bow Klein says contractors cleared a drainage pipe that had been clogged, leading water running off from the airport runway to dump onto her property.
She says the airport property has also been deforested, and contractors did not redig a drainage ditch that had been there before, exacerbating the flooding at the kennel, which lies about 100 yards from the runway and sits below it.
The septic drainage area now has to be moved, Klein said that will cost more than $4000. Already she said, the clean-up bills after every rain this summer have cost her between $5000 and $6000.
She has asked airport officials to pay for the damages. The county has laid hay down along the road, and shored up some of the washed-away drainage ditch to prevent future flooding, but no one has accepted responsibility for the damage that's already been done, Klein says.
