Police Still Searching For Shooter
The hunt to find the gunman who killed Spindale bouncer Jeffrey James continued Monday.
Spindale Police responded to a call that there was a fight at Mingles City Sports Bar and Grille around 1:30 a.m. Saturday to find James lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to the back of the neck and people rushing out of the club and fleeing the premises.
James, who was 43, was taken to Rutherford Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead in the emergency room a short time later.
Monday there were still no arrests in the murder investigation and five friends of James said the Army combat veteran and father have no enemies and news that he had been shot came as a shock.
Friends called him a "gentle giant" and described James as funny, warm and big-hearted.
James was a prominent local wrestler, who performed under the name "Crunk". Friends say he wrestled recently at the Ellenboro Fair.
On Facebook a graphic reading "Who shot Jeffrey James" was shared more than 350 times.
Spindale Police did not return calls for comment Monday. The department had a meeting on the murder investigation Monday morning and officers said the Spindale Police Chief was out of town to be present for the autopsy.
