Sister Sentenced For Stabbing Brother
A sister fatally stabbed her brother in an August 2011 incident and pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Rutherford County Superior Court Thursday.
Tammy McKinney, 36, pleaded guilty to stabbing her brother Frankie Edward McKinney Jr. in the chest on August 23, 2011 during an altercation.
Bloodwork revealed Frankie McKinney had toxic levels of multiple drugs including methamphetamine in his system during the argument.
Defense attorney Tony Dalton said his client stabbed her brother in self defense. McKinney has said her brother fell on the knife.
Five family members spoke in court saying Frankie McKinney could be violent toward his two sisters and asking the judge that Tammy not be sentenced to prison, but instead be admitted into a treatment facility.
Judge Bradley Letts gave McKinney a suspended sentence of 13 to 16 months with 60 months probation. Letts ordered her to supervised house arrest until a bed opens at an in-patient substance abuse program followed by a residential care program.
