Honoring Jimmie Rodgers
Celebrating the "father of country music", in the city where it all started.
A dedication was held in downtown Asheville Sunday for a North Carolina highway historical-marker honoring Jimmie Rodgers.
The singer moved to Asheville in 1927 and his weekly appearances on WWNC Radio helped make him a star.
The dedication was all part of Jimmie Rodgers Day.
Dallas Taylor, wncmusic.org, "the voice of Jimmie Rodgers was echoing from the past that this needs to happen, because there's so many people that seem to follow in his footsteps here in Asheville, that know about his legacy here that you wouldn't expect."
In addition to the marker dedication, there was also a parade leading to the Asheville Music Hall, everyone celebrating Rodgers' local legacy.
