Mountain State Fair Volunteers
Mountain State Fair organizers say the dry weather is drawing near-record crowds this year. With those large crowds, they say it's more important than ever for fair workers to be as healthy and happy as possible. A large group of volunteers is working behind the scenes to make that happen. Several volunteers from the Baptist Association are dentists like Dr. David Krishingner of Brevard. Krishingner who works out of a small mobile unit a few fair days each year, says this is often the only dental care many fair workers can get. He says many of them have severe dental problems that would leave them sick, if untreated.
In addition to dentists and nurses, volunteers also give workers free haircuts and hot meals. Ron Stamey, director of the Mountain State Fair, says the workers are always excited to come to Asheville, because of the free services. One worker, 21-year-old Jessica Odom, had major dental problems. She says the treatment she got from Dr. Krishingner was very helpful.
