54 People Sick In Salmonella Outbreak
A Salmonella outbreak at a church fundraiser is believed to have sickened 54 people. The barbecue event was held at the Sandy Plains Baptist Church in Shelby on September 7th. The North Carolina Health Department says 25 people in Rutherford County and 29 in Cleveland County have confirmed symptoms. The total number of cases has doubled since Wednesday and health officials say there could be more. Health officials are still working to pin down the specific food at the event that may have caused the outbreak. The pastor says the church is stunned and praying for a swift recovery for those who've gotten sick. Of the 54 cases, one person is still in the hospital.
