Child Pornography Sentencing
Two former employees of a Hendersonville charter school are sentenced to prison in a child pornography case.
Former teacher Deborah Tipton will spend 18 years behind bars for sending the videos over the internet to Chad Hamby. Former Principal Hamby received a 4 year sentence for receiving them.
According to testimony, Deborah Tipton recorded videos of an 11-year-old girl taking a shower and one that showed the child exposing herself. Tipton admitted she made the videos, then used the internet to send them to Hamby. Prosecutors say Tipton sent them to Hamby during what he described as a fantasy relationship. Both pleaded guilty to the federal child pornography charges.
Neighbors in Tipton's neighborhood say with more porn available on cable networks and the internet, cases like these are likely to become more common. There's no evidence any of these crimes involved the mountain community school or its students.
When Tipton is released, she will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life. She told the court she had lost her career, her home, and her children. She also said she was sorry for the mistakes she made.
