Employees Without Jobs

Scores of workers at Pisgah Inn along the Blue Ridge Parkway are out of a job while the government is shutdown.  The general manager says normally one hundred employees would be working in the peak month of October. But because of the shutdown, only 15 remain.

He says they are not furloughed or laid off. There's just simply no work for them to do during the government shutdown and he hopes the majority will return once it ends.

Some employees are looking for work elsewhere, even taking to Craigslist posting their job skills.

Brittany McGraw does housecleaning at the Inn, but isn't making money during the impasse.  She's wondering what to do. "I was going to wait for the week, but I've got to look for more work because I can't keep waiting up here forever with no income," she says.

Sous Chef Erik Weidman hopes the shutdown ends soon and he can get back to work making decent money for a baby boy he expects soon.  He says no money coming in is taking its toll. "So we were depending on this month to get a car.  That's not going to happen obviously," he says.
