Asheville Police Community Forum
Weighing in on the future of the Asheville Police Department. A public meeting was held to get community input on what the department is doing well and maybe not so well. To help formulate a strategic plan, the city enlisted in the consulting services of two retired North Carolina police chiefs.
About 50 people attended the meeting and each person got the chance to speak their mind. The feedback gathered at the forum will help create a road map for the department. Folks were asked two questions, what is the Asheville Police doing well and what areas can they improve upon in the next three years.
There were a number of issues tossed around during an open session. Cultural sensitivity, educating the youth and communication skills of young officers were some of the ideas pitched at tonight's meeting.
The city also wants to hear from those not able to attend the forum. Starting Thursday, a webpage will be available to post your thoughts and opinions.
