Preparing For Snow
When the word "snow" shows up in the forecast, people pay attention and start getting ready. Many here in the mountains heat their homes by burning wood. The cold weather is prompting people to call for firewood deliveries.
Alan Dorton with A to Z Handyman in Haywood County says, "Slowly but surely, we just put that sign up yesterday. We got a couple calls. Im sure we're going to get a lot more," said Alan Dorton with A to Z Handyman in Haywood County.
At the Trustworthy Hardware store in Waynesville, infra-red heaters are a big seller.
Managers say the sudden temperature drop has people asking questions about their plumbing too. "They're finding out ways, you know, insulating pipes. We are getting more people that want insulation now," says Glenn Birchfield. He's putting out the snow shovels too, and says ice melt is next.
Others are getting snow tires on their cars.
Visitors are still enjoying fall leaves. Alan Haynes, a retired photography teacher from California says hes enjoying the combination of autumn and winter along the Blue Ridge Parkway. "There's Fall color. You have ice and we're kind of hoping for snow too. It's amazing all the images that I find," said Haynes.
