Plans For Safer Sidewalks

People on foot or in wheelchairs say they often risk their lives to reach restaurants and stores on Hendersonville Road in Asheville. On Tuesday, Asheville City Council votes on a new sidewalk project to help out. They're expected to approve a $4 million federally funded project to fill the gaps between the spotty stretches of existing sidewalks. When completed, the work will provide 6 ft. wide sidewalks from the I-40 interchange to Long Shoals Road. The city will pay nearly $1 million of the $4 million federally funded project. The work must be completed by December 1, 2014.
