Federal Programs Funding
A sigh of relief today from local county officials worried about a range of public assistance programs.
The government shutdown that's now over threatened funding that could have hurt thousands of low income families. Everything from food assistance to work first benefits were threatened.
Many clients who received food vouchers from the WIC program are also resting easier today Buncombe County officials say they never stopped funding for any of their programs, with the exception of day care vouchers. The state had temporarily suspended those vouchers for two days last week.
But then found available federal and state funds to keep them funded through November that's when clients would have really felt the shutdown impact.
Buncombe County officials say the state maintained benefits for WIC, work first, day care vouchers and food assistance.
The only real impact would have been no funding for next month, which has been resolved.
