Henderson County Voucher Threat
A continued government shutdown may eliminate a crucial federal subsidy program in Henderson County.
Daycare vouchers for more than 500 children could be cut by the end of this week. The families receive help based on income level, and parents must also work or attend school to qualify.
Some licensed daycare providers have client lists that are almost all subsidy-based.
They say they face going out of business, because so many parents would be forced to stay home.
A group of daycare owners plans to attend Wednesday morning's regularly scheduled meeting of the Henderson County Commission.
Vouchers and other federally subsidized programs are on the agenda.
Providers say they will ask commissioners to find a way to extend funding, despite the government shutdown.
