Bear Attacks Pet Goats
A bear attacks a Buncombe County woman's two pet goats and kills them. It happened Friday night at Leslie Osborne's home on Reeves Street in Weaverville. She says she watched helplessly as her goats, Daisy and Huey, were being eaten alive by the bear.
"It was like watching Animal Kingdom that Friday night. It was so surreal because you just couldn't believe it was happening in front of your eyes and on your own property. There was absolutely nothing we could do about it," said Osborne.
Despite calling police for help, there was little the officers could do. Police say the only time they are allowed to kill a bear is if the bear is attacking a person.
However, homeowners do have the right to kill in order to protect their property.
Osborne says she's worried the 500 pound bear is still in the area and may attack again.
Wildlife officials say if you see a bear, back away slowly making as much noise as you possibly can. Make sure to keep an eye out for your kids and small pets and eliminate all food sources in your yard.
