Haywood Hospital Sale

Haywood County Commissioners voice their support to sell Haywood Regional Hospital to Duke-Lifepoint.

The board adopted a resolution of intent to sell the assets of the hospital operating under the Medwest banner for more than three years.

This follows the hospital board's unanimous approval last week.

Commissioner Kevin Ensley says Duke specializes in rural hospitals.

"We feel like it will help our hospital...maybe make it a good competition with Mission and the other hospitals and really help the name of the hospital and the confidence in the public in having a quality hospital," said Ensley.

The Commissioners' resolution is required before Duke can follow through on its offer to buy the hospital for more than $26 million.

The next required step is a public hearing at the Commissioners meeting December 16th.
