Haywood County Drug Round-Up
At least fourteen people are arrested in a Haywood county drug round-up.
The sheriff's office partnered with Maggie Valley, Waynesville, and Canton police targeting dealers over the last seven months.
"Today we have seen the indictments and or arrests of 28 people charged with a total of 102 felonies", said Haywood County Sheriff Greg Christopher.
Authorities made arrests in several neighborhoods.
"We wanted to make it so difficult for drug dealers to do business in Haywood county...that they are going to stop or be forced to go elsewhere," said Christopher.
Joshua Chapman was arrested at his trailer in the Jonathan Creek community and charged with trafficking opium or heroin.
Neighbors like Tina Thompson say they're tired of the drug activity.
"There's little kids here and stuff and they'll go down here where the mailboxes used to be on the other side and they'll go down here and make deals and stuff like that," said Thompson.
More arrests are expected. Most of those facing charges are scheduled to appear in court December 16th.
