New Voter Laws

A new voter ID law took effect in South Carolina Tuesday. The law requires voters to present one of five approved state-issued photo identification cards before voting. The law was passed in 2011, but this was the first November election after it took effect. Opponents say the law disenfranchises minorities and the poor, while supporters say it's an important safeguard for elections.
