Preparing For The Snow

Three days before Thanksgiving, people are preparing for icy conditions and possible power outages with snow in the forecast. Will Phillips works for a camp near Weaverville. Hes buying bags of salt and ice melt to keep the roads clear for guests scheduled to arrive Wednesday.

The ACE Hardware store in Weaverville has pallets full of what he needs to help people navigate the ice. He says the snowy forecast has changed some of his co-workers plans. Theyre canceling plans to visit friends and family because road conditions could be hazardous.

Some of those safety concerns have homeowners buying shovels and back-up heating units. Portable propane heaters can warm up a room in a power outage. Many are buying firewood for the old reliable fireplace.

Others are packing supermarket parking lots to pick up Thanksgiving supplies that could become survival food if the snow traps them at home.
