Newspaper Controversy

A local newspaper is taking some heat for what was not included along with all of Wednesday's pre-Thanksgiving ads. It involves an Asheville Citizen-Times insert some readers believe should have been labeled as paid political advertising.

The Raleigh Digest is published by a company called InTouchNC, which is owned by Republican State Representative Tim Moffitt. Moffitt says he doesn't write the articles, but he does pay the bills.

It's 48 pages of articles dealing with what was a heated and controversial year in Raleigh. Moffitt says it's a straight-forward explanation of what he believes are the facts behind laws passed by the GOP controlled legislature.

Critics see it as little more than right-wing spin. Enough Citizen-Times subscribers complained that the newspaper posted a clarification and apology for any confusion among its readers.
