Charges Investigated In Pedestrian Accident

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says the driver who struck two young children on Airport Road Wednesday night is not facing charges.  But Asheville Police say an investigation will determine if charges will be filed against the man who was allegedly trying to cross the busy road with the children.

Their mother tells News 13 the man is her boyfriend. He identified himself as Ryanand says they were walking to their nearby home about 8:30 P.M. after visiting her at her job at Walmart.  He says they were attempting to cross the road where it was dark and there was no traffic light. He says the SUV came up fast, and clipped his leg, but caused much more serious injuries to the children.  He says it was an accident and he's cooperating with investigators.

The children's father, Anthony Ramsey, says his 2-year-old son, Silas, is in stable condition at Mission Hospital.  But his 5-year-old daughter, Lola is in critical condition.

"She's not going to make it. I don't even know how I'm dealing with it. Had I been there my children wouldn't have got run over by a car," said Ramsey.

Residents who live along Airport Road say it needs sidewalks, crosswalks, and better lighting in that area.
