It's still weeks away from winter, but it doesn't look like it. Snow flakes dusted some of the higher elevations Tuesday, bringing the mountains its first taste of the season. By early Tuesday afternoon, there was a light coating of snow near the Wolf Laurel Ski Resort.
The flurries already falling has crews at the Madison County NCDOT salt barn gearing up for a busy night. Workers are loading their vehicles and bracing for some long hours.
"The night crews gonna be coming in tonight working. We will have the day crew working until they come in this evening and they'll be working through the night on anything that may come up," said Chris Deaton with the NCDOT.
NCDOT workers remind anyone out on the roads at night to be especially careful on the bridges and overpasses since they tend to ice up first.
