Duke Energy Petitions
People unhappy with the use of coal powered energy plants took their message to Duke Energy Wednesday. Supporters of clean energy from a group called Beyond Coal held up banners at Lake Julian Park. They want the power plant there to be converted from coal to a renewable energy.
A Duke Energy spokesman says the Asheville plant has provided clean dependable energy for the region since 1964. He says walking away from the company's $300 million investment for unproved and unreliable technologies would not be in their customers' best interest.
