Sentencing in Fatal Crash
An Asheville man is sentenced after a fatal crash that resulted in the death of his own 3-year-old daughter.
David Jones entered a guilty plea Monday afternoon to assault with a deadly weapon, involuntary manslaughter, hit and run, and driving with a revoked license.
Tuesday, the judge sentenced Jones to 21 months in prison.
At the sentencing, Jones' family told the judge had suffered seizures for years and tried to convince him that is what caused the crash.
However, a state trooper testified Monday that Jones was speeding when the car flew up over a retaining wall and into a city maintenance facility parking lot.
His daughter, 3-year-old Maddie, was riding in the back seat and was killed. A Public Works employee was seriously injured.
