UPDATE: WCU Campus Fire

Multiple fire departments responding to a fire on the campus of Western Carolina University.

The school posted an alert on their website and Facebook pages just after 9AM saying the Cullowhee Volunteer Fire Department is on the scene of a working fire at the Subway located at the mini-mall at Centennial and Central Drive on the Western Carolina University campus.

Traffic is being diverted from the area, and emergency officials ask members of the public to avoid the area so that firefighters and first responders can do their work.

Crews tell News 13 there have been no injuries and the cause is still under investigation.

From Western Carolina University:
WCU is operating on a normal schedule and all classroom buildings, residence halls and dining facilities are open. Students, faculty and staff are advised to use their own discretion in completing the instructional day.

Emergency management officials continue to urge the public to avoid the area where the fire occurred.

News 13 has a crew there and will bring you updates as available.
