Theft Ring Bust
A Bryson City police officer helps bust an international ring of credit card thieves.
Assistant Chief Greg Jones says he started investigating after a local doctor filed a fraudulent charge report. Jones says he found the doctor's card was used to buy computer equipment. Jones tracked the computer equipment to an address in Alabama. That's where local authorities found thousands of items bought with other people's credit cards.
"They arrived in the middle of a large shipment of property that was being delivered to that residence. There were trucks coming and dropping off. FedEx trucks coming and picking up," said Assistant Chief Greg Jones of the Bryson City Police Department.
Jones also says they are not sure how long the theft ring had been operating. The FBI is also assisting with the investigation.
