Search For Rape Suspect

Investigators in Macon County say a man wearing camouflage clothes and face paint raped a woman in her own home.

Police say two men had gone to her home last week along Windy Gap Road, claiming they were looking for a dog, perhaps a hunting dog. One of the men returned at 2 a.m. Tuesday. That's when the sheriff's office says he overpowered her and raped her.

Sheriff Robbie Holland says he's asking for the public's help in catching the suspect but also wants to hear from the other man.

"It's very important that individual who was with our suspect that committed the rape earlier in the evening come forward and let us know exactly what occurred that evening," said Sheriff Holland.

Residents are now nervous and hope for a quick arrest.

"I'd certainly hope that they would catch whoever did this. It would certainly make the community feel a lot safer," said Mike McConnell, who also says his wife is now insisting on locking their doors.

Both men are described as white, over six feet tall and weigh more than 250 pounds. Investigators say both were wearing black knit caps, but there is no vehicle description.
