Gingerbread Lesson Via Skype Warms Hearts
It takes more than just a sweet tooth to judge the National Gingerbread Contest.
"I love the shading, the textural details are amazing," says Chef Nicholas Lodge, as he judges one entry. He's one of nine professionals evaluating every crumb.
But the most discerning eyes, aren't always pastry pros.
Mooresville Intermediate teachers Kristin Faucher and Erin Anders stunned 300 fourth graders via Skype. What better way to launch a lesson about gingerbread?
They put their laptop on a rolling cart to reveal where they were, and the crowd went wild with each entry they saw. Along the way, the professional judges smiles and laughed when they heard the oohs and ahs.
The experience drove home the joy of gingerbread to both students and adults.
Mooresville Intermediate kids also got to vote on their favorites, giving them a chance to compare what they liked with the professionals.
