UPDATE: Small Plane Crash

A small plane crashed into a wooded area in Henderson County near the South Carolina state line. The pilot made the 911 call that led rescuers to the scene.

Just after 6 p.m. Tuesday, the Henderson County Emergency Dispatch center received the call from a man who told them he'd just crashed his single-engine aircraft.

Crews responded to the Cliffs Valley North gated community and then made their way onto Mountain Summit Road from there. Conditions were not good for search and rescue. First they had to figure-out exactly where he was. Then make the tough hike in. They finally got to where he was waiting, almost literally right on the state-line.

The identity of the pilot has still not been released. He was taken to Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville to be checked-out as a precaution.
