Fire and Rescue Training
Some future Asheville firefighters perform a dangerous rescue Thursday night. Real life emergencies are being played out in a series of training exercises as nine rookie firefighters were put to the test. They are all part of the department's fast track program. It's a seven week course that will be coming to an end Friday.
But first, these rookies must prove they're able to handle any situation. They did a high angle rescue simulation as part of their fast track training to become firefighters. It was held at the Buncombe County Firefighters' Training Center at the old landfill.
Early Friday morning, they'll tackle a simulated plane crash. When the last emergency exercise is complete all nine will be ready to graduate and serve their community.
