Asheville Named Top 10 College Town
Travel and Leisure Magazine says Asheville is one of the top ten college towns in America. Asheville is ranked eighth behind cities like Burlington Vermont, Charlottesville Virginia and Boulder Colorado.
The magazine describes the city as down to earth and quirky. Wicked weed brewing, barley's taproom and the orange peel are just some of the hot spots for college aged kids.
"One of the things I did in my first year was I went to the drum circle and it was really exciting and energetic and it felt like kind of a community there."," said UNC Asheville student Christopher Rolle.
Outdoor activities is also a draw.
" I like to go out into nature a lot. I like to go out to the Blue Ridge Parkway and just hike around in the woods and I also go downtown and I go and check out the scene. I go to some of the bars and check out the local music," said UNCA student Brendan Jebb.
There are some who are surprised by this ranking. One student from Chapel Hill says he believes that is a traditional college town. Chapel Hill though did make the list, coming in at number 19.
