Hendersonville Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration

Hendersonville becomes a beacon of light on Black Friday with a Christmas tree display and crowds of shoppers on the streets. It's the city's Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration and the singing began at sunset. Hundreds packed the Historic Courthouse plaza to join the band in Christmas carols and to watch for Santa Claus. He appeared on the balcony and urged kids young and old to be kind to one another, and to be willing to give in the spirit of Christmas. He led the crowd in a countdown to light the big courthouse trees and then invited parents and kids to a reception inside. Parents say it's a wonderful way to launch the holiday season. The downtown took on a special sound with the horse-drawn carriages and trolley rides. Crowds strolled down the newly renovated sidewalks and packed businesses that stayed open late for them to shop. Store managers tell News 13 thousands people came through their businesses Friday.
