Tryon Water Line Break

UPDATE: Update from Public Works: Repairs to the main trunk line are now complete and the water system is coming back into service. Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

The Town of Tryon issues a boil-water advisory for customers after a major water line break Tuesday afternoon. Crews from neighboring towns are helping the Tryon Water Department with repairs. Service could be restored to customers who have no water by early Wednesday morning if no other problems are found as crews replace the line.

The following is a statement released by the Town of Tryon:

"The water consumers on the Town of Tryon water system, in Polk County are experiencing periods of low pressure and outages in the distribution system due to a water line break.  Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Therefore, the Division of Water Resources advises that when water is restored consumers boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water.

Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

This office is strongly urging the water consumers to conserve water whenever possible.  This advisory remains in effect until further written notification is issued."
