Neighborhood Crime Bust
A crime ring ends with nine men charged in more than a dozen break-ins. The incidents first began Labor Day weekend with break-ins in three homes in one day. The crimes continued for two months as Asheville Police investigated and gathered tips from concerned citizens. Eventually, the effort lead to charges against a group of men who police say are responsible for 17 incidents in the Southside neighborhood of Asheville. Police also discovered a holding house for the stolen items. The nine men, including some juveniles, were hit with a total of 30 felony charges. Asheville Police say the men were working together as a group, and some affiliated with a local gang.
Asheville Police say many of these incidents occurred during daylight hours when residents were at work. They encourage neighbors to keep a close eye on each other's home at all hours of the day and night.
