Toy Store Filled With Hope

A special storefront is now open for the holidays to help families find presents for their kids. The Ingles Toy Store is stocked with thousands of items collected during last weekend's Magical Christmas Toy Drive.

Angie Ford of Pisgah Elementary was one of the shoppers Tuesday morning. She had 19 students on her list.

"You feel bad for them because they don't have anything for Christmas," Ford says. "But you wanna make a point to make sure they have what they need at Christmas time. "

Volunteers like Tommy Koontz say it's a pleasure helping folks find what they're looking for.

"Cause a lot of children are hurting today," Koontz tells us. "And they don't have things other folks have."

The drive over the weekend collected between 12,000 and 15,000 toys.

Even as a volunteer, Koontz says he's well-compensated when you think about it.

"Cause I believe in helping people," he explains. "I get more out of it than they do."

Families in need of assistance can still apply by going to Eblen Charities' Waddell Center at Westgate Shopping Center. All shoppers are pre-registered and come to the store by appointment.
