Working On Christmas

Most people have the day off, as most places are closed on this Christmas day but not everyone.

Maxine Maynards been working at the Waffle House on Long Shoals Road in Asheville on and off for 17 years and as a hostess, always with graciousness.

"You get to enjoy Christmas.  See all your friends. Make new friends. And I love my job", she says.

Its been busy and waitresses say people are generous.

"I mean tips are always a lot better on Christmas.  Everyone is really jolly.  Everyone is always really happy", says Christina Gagne.

Working at Skyland Fire and Rescue on Christmas, comes with the territory.

"There's always emergencies happening.  So somebody has to be here.  Thats just part of our job", says firefighter Bryan Moore.

Rosanne Kiely keeps her West Village Market and Deli open on all holidays.

"One reason is we're the neighborhood grocery store and we want to be here for the neighborhood",  Kiely says.
