Anita Vestal Trial Update
The fate of a former Swain County jail guard accused of helping an accused killer escape is in the hands of a jury.
Before they started deliberations this morning, jurors ask to see a video of Anita Vestal being questioned by a California detective.
Vestal faces multiple charges in connection with Jeffrey Miles' escape from the Swain County Jail in march 2009.
He's since been convicted of killing Scott Wiggins and Michael Compton.
Vestal and Miles drove to California but were captured a month later.
In the video jurors saw and heard Vestal talking to her father saying "I just went crazy" and in a conversation with her husband she asked if he still loved her and repeatedly asked if their kids were alright.
Vestal also expressed fear that if she returned home the murder victims families might try to shoot her.
Miles is serving life in prison with no parole for the murders.
The jury began deliberating Vestals fate at 11am. News 13 is in the courtroom and will bring you updates as they are available.
