Wilson's Tourists Connection

Asheville Tourist fans are riding high after one of their own is going to the Superbowl.  Former Tourists player Russell Wilson led the Seattle Seahawks to the Superbowl after a victory Sunday night in the NFC Championship game.

Tourists president Brian DeWine says he's "so excited for Russell." Wilson played second base for the Tourists in the spring of 2011.  His stay was short, however.  He left after 2 and a half months to play football at the University of Wisconsin before joining the Seattle Seahawks.

DeWine keeps Wilson's game jersey in his closet with those of other notable Tourist players.  Wilson autographed the jersey before he left.  DeWine says he was one of the best athletes to ever come through their organization with an incredible work ethic.  He says, "he was the first to get in and the last to leave."

DeWine says he would have never imagined Wilson would be playing in the Superbowl just 3 years later but says, "I knew he would do great things."
