Demand For Blood
Winter weather is also hurting the American Red Cross when it comes to keeping-up with the demand for blood.
Snow and ice is still keeping people away from the donation center in Asheville. Between Tuesday and Wednesday, a half dozen blood drives had to be canceled. That lead to the loss of more than 200 units of blood and platelets that had been anticipated.
Red Cross officials say staff is ready to go, but winter's still having a negative effect.
"We don't want to ask folks to put themselves at risk coming to donate blood and platelets. But now that the roads are clearing, we'd sure like the public to come and help make up, pick up the slack," said John Wareham with the American Red Cross.
The best way to be part of that effort is to contact the "red cross" and make an appointment to donate. Click here for more information.
