Silent Crossing In River Arts District
Train horns will no longer be blaring in the River Arts District in Asheville. Signs were recently put up on Lyman near the Riverlink building telling train operators to not sound their horns.
As we've previously reported, Riverlink and the Railroad Quiet Zone Coalition wanted to make the area a quiet zone.
One woman who lives nearby says she has serious safety concerns.
"I think it's dangerous to some people who cannot hear or people who have children or dogs or small children, it's hard without the horn they sometimes can't see the train unless they're actually watching for it," said Susan Garrison.
The quiet zone had to be approved by the Federal Railroad Administration in order for the signs to be posted.
