Snow and ice is forcing some mountain school districts to cancel classes again tomorrow. Administrators in Haywood County were the first to announce they were canceling classes Friday. Other counties are following their lead but some districts have decided to hold classes or delay. Buncombe County Schools are on a three hour delay and no buses are allowed on icy roads. But school officials in Haywood County say they aren't taking any chances.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Bill Nolte says most of the counties secondary roads still have a significant amount of ice on them. After driving the bus routes Thursday afternoon, transportation officials decided it would not be safe for anyone to be out on the roads. Even with warmer temperatures forecasted for Friday, there will not be enough time for the snow and ice to melt.
